Elle Macpherson will make a spectacular return to the catwalk for the PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival next week on March 4. The iconic Australian supermodel is set to walk the PayPal Runway which opens the festival – it is set to be the first time Elle has walked the runway in almost 15 years.
“I’m honoured to support PayPal in promoting Australian fashion globally. PayPal’s platform gives creative talents and small businesses the opportunity to grow internationally by building customer trust,” Elle said in a statement.
“From personal experience, I know the challenges of taking a business global, and how valuable trusted partners are in that process.”
As well as strutting the Melbourne Fashion Festival catwalk, Elle Macpherson and PayPal have partnered together to support UNICEF and their critical work through a multinational fundraising campaign later this year. The supermodel has been a longtime advocate and official ambassador for UNICEF will be launching a campaign to make a difference to the lives of children everywhere.
“This year the PayPal Runway is all about celebrating the success of Australian fashion businesses and their remarkable influence on the industry, so Elle is the perfect ambassador,” said Shane Capron, Senior Director of Consumer at PayPal.
“Not only is Elle an Australian who became one of the world’s leading supermodels, she has also launched a globally successful brand. PayPal currently supports 150,000 Australian fashion businesses and we are committed to help them create even more connections with our 9m Australian customers and 380m PayPal shoppers around the world.”
Elle Macpherson first rose to fame after appearing in a commercial for TAB in 1982. Shortly after, Elle took a trip to America before taking up her law degree at the University of Sydney. What was intended to only be a gap year turned into Elle kickstarting a career as a burgeoning super model.
Following a successful modelling stint in America, Elle found herself on the covers of iconic magazines such as Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, Vogue and Cosmopolitan. As well as being a cover star, Elle also walked the runway for iconic ‘80s and ‘90s designers such as Anne Klein, Donna Karan and Todd Oldham.
Now, after 16 years off the catwalk and focusing on other business endeavours, Elle Macpherson will make a triumphant return at the Melbourne Fashion Festival.
