Reese Witherspoon has confirmed that a Legally Blonde TV show prequel series – titled Elle – will premiere on Amazon Prime Video in 2026.
The new show will explore Elle Woods’ high school years in the 1990s, and Reese’s production company, Hello Sunshine, is producing the series, ensuring it remains true to the beloved franchise.

What is the Legally Blonde TV show about?
The new series, titled Elle, will be an origin story of Elle Woods as a high schooler in the 1990s.
In a video posted on Instagram in late 2024, Reese revealed, “Before she became the most famous Gemini vegetarian to graduate from Harvard Law, she was just a regular ’90s high school girl. And all of you are going to get to know her, next year on Prime Video. I’M SO EXCITED!”
According to Deadline, the series is being written by Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage.

Who will be in the Legally Blonde TV Show cast?
On February 14, 2025, Reese announced who would play Elle in the new Legally Blonde series — newcomer Lexi Minetree.
The young actress studied Theatre at the University of Southern California. Previously, she had a guest role in a 2024 episode of Law and Order: SVU.
“Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to Reese Witherspoon for handing me down Elle Woods. I already love her so so much, I promise she’s in good hands,” Lexi wrote on Instagram once the news was announced.
On March 12, 2025, it was announced that June Diane Raphael, of New Girl and Grace and Frankie fame, will play Elle’s mum Eva Woods in Elle.
Two weeks later, it was announced that Tom Everett Scott, best known for Because I Said So and The Summer I Turned Pretty, will play Elle’s dad Wyatt Woods.
Will Reese Witherspoon make an appearance in the Legally Blonde TV Show?
Though Reese Witherspoon is deeply involved in the project as an executive producer, it remains uncertain if she will appear on screen.
Given that the series is a prequel, her appearance would likely be as a cameo or in a different capacity.
Fans are hopeful though. Especially after Reese recreated the famous “bend and snap” dance move from the original film at the Amazon Upfront Presentation in May 2024.
