Best hair curling wand

Those of us with straight hair remember being told to “eat the crust” from our sandwiches in order to achieve gorgeous, bouncy curls. Yet, despite eating those crusts every single day as a child, my hair remained pin-straight.

So, of course, the minute I knew how to wield a curling iron (or even a hair straightener), you can bet I was styling my hair to try and give myself the curls I’d always desired.

Of course, curling your hair is not exclusive to those with straight hair. Even if you already have curly or textured hair and want to define your curls, we’ve got you covered with our best curling wands in Australia.

If you want tighter curls, go for a thin barreled curling wand. If you want big, loose curls, opt for a wide barrel.

What barrel size should I use?

The barrel size of your curling wand depends on the look you want to achieve. An ultra-thin curling wand (usually around 10-14mm) will give you tight, ringlet-style curls. As you move to a larger barrel (usually above 35mm), you will achieve a much softer, looser curl.

For the best of both worlds, try a tapered curling iron, and use different parts of the barrel to create the curl you’re looking for.

What is the ideal temperature for heat styling?

There is no one strict rule for the temperature of your heat styler. Most tools will sit around 180 degrees. However, some offer heats of up to 220 degrees. The temperature needed depends on how fine or coarse the hair is. Thinner (or damaged) hair is best to style with a much lower temperature than that of thick, textured hair.

Tools such as the Dyson Airwrap offer heat-free styling, so it offers a great option for those conscious of damaging their hair, or who like to style frequently.

It is always recommended to use a heat protectant, as heat styling can affect the health of your hair.
