From the resurgence of ‘90s trends to colour domination, fashion experts – including The Weekly‘s Style Director Mattie Cronan – are weighing in on all the upcoming trends to keep an eye out for in the coming months.

Colourful stockings

A revived retro trend that we’ll be seeing everywhere this year is colourful, intricate stockings. The 2024 fashion trend has already dominated in the northern hemisphere but as we head towards cooler weather here in the south hemisphere you can expect to see this trend.

The trend is a fairly inexpensive way to inject a pop of colour, unique texture or print into a simple outfit.

Fancy flats

We’re living in the era of comfort footwear. Gone are the days of cramming our feet into impossibly high stilettos for work or a night out. Instead, in 2024 we’ll be seeing fancy flats.

“Think Mary-Jane’s, ballet flats coming in crushed velvet, adorned with crystals, mesh fabrications that lift the simplest of outfits,” Says The Weekly’s Style Director, Mattie Cronan.

Oxblood

Since Miu Miu’s oxblood strappy heels took the internet by storm, we’ve seen this decadently rich colour pop up across fashion. According to fashion sourcer Gab Waller, you can expect this colour to hang around all year long.

“That colour I think is going to be a huge colour throughout the year,” Gab tells The Weekly. “We sore of a lot of that colour on the runways so to me, that’s the colour that’s going to be trending.”

Corpcore

‘Office siren core’, ‘corpcore’, whatever you call it – business is back, baby! From suits to tailored vests, business attire is no longer just for the office.

“It’s essentially workwear that you’re wearing out,” Gab explains of one of the 2024 fashion trends. “We saw a lot of that on the runways, it really does take me back to my corporate days!”

“Sharp shoulders, high waisted, wide leg or a boxy cuts tailoring, suiting is here to stay,” Mattie adds. “Whether it’s for your return to work wardrobe or for a night time event a stylish suit is a wardrobe essential. We are seeing more women take to the red carpet in cool tailored looks, it is a powerful yet practical look.”

Vests

It was a 90’s wardrobe staple – particularly in the wardrobe of Fran Fine – and it’s back in 2024. Whether they’re tailored or more relaxed, vests add a touch of sophistication to any outfit.

“The vest has been a staple in the wardrobe last season and continuing into 2024 too. We are seeing cropped styles paired with a coordinating suit or a longer length button down styled back with a column skirt,” Mattie says.

Feminine energy

2023 was the year of the woman, from Barbie to Taylor Swift, feminine energy reigned supreme. This trend is expected to spill into fashion well into 2024.

“There is an amalgamation of a few trends that all have a girly and feminine touch, Think 3D floral rosettes, sheer lightweight layers, ultra feminine tulle, prettiest of pastels, and floral prints,” Mattie explains.
