Indoor plants can die because of a number of factors such as overwatering, underwatering, lack of sunlight, nutrient deficiencies and a range of other issues. Unless you’re an avid greenthumb, managing indoor plants can be a daunting task. Here are some of the things that may be causing your beloved indoor plants to die prematurely:

  1. Overwatering
  2. Under watering
  3. Poor drainage
  4. Lack of sunlight
  5. Too much sunlight
  6. Incorrect temperature
  7. Low humidity
  8. Pests
  9. Diseases
  10. Nutrient deficiencies

Willow is an Australian-designed device that aims to keep all your plants healthy and in check. Retailing for just $59.95, the nifty device has sensors that continuously monitor soil moisture, ambient light, temperature and humidity. Think of it like an EKG machine but for your plants instead.

Inserted discreetly into your indoor plant pot, Willow monitors conditions based on what plant type you have. This means that if you’ve ever found yourself guessing when and how much to water, what light and placement works best, and what conditions around humidity and temperature your plant needs to thrive.

If something needs attention, Willow’s trusty phone app will then alert you when your plant needs a little TLC. It’ll also tell you exactly what action to take and will save you from having to throw away yet another decaying plant.

But it’s not just alerts of when your plant needs dire attention, the Willow app and device can also give you a general status update throughout the day with a rolling plant score updated throughout the day.

Willow’s Co-founder Jared Carlin said that he developed the device after his own frustration with houseplants.

“People take so much pride in their houseplants, but keeping them alive is a huge challenge – and I speak from experience! Willow takes the guesswork out of plantcare and gives you the best advice to keep your plants happy,” Jared Carlin says about Willow.
