Everything you need to know about fire signs

Meet your favourite hot-tempered trio: Aries, Leo and Sagittarius.

Even if you don’t know what a fire sign is, chances are that you know one, or perhaps are one yourself. In astrology, the 12 zodiacs are neatly divided up into four elements: Earth, Air, Fire and Water. But what are fire signs? Here’s everything you need to know.

What are fire signs?

Each zodiac sign has a corresponding element that reveals a deeper understanding of the traits and characteristics of a sign. Fire signs are made up of the following zodiac signs:

  • Aries
  • Leo
  • Sagittarius

What are the traits of fire signs?

  • Energetic
  • Passionate
  • Confident
  • Creative
  • Impulsive
  • Impatient

Whereas earth signs tend to be more grounded, Fire signs are likely to light up your life with their vivacious personalities and blazing egos. However, despite being lumped together under the banner of ‘fire sign’, Aries, Leo and Sagittarians all display their fiery energy in broadly different ways.

Dates: March 21 – April 19

Famous alumni: Elton John, Mariah Carey, Diana Ross, Robert Downey Jr., Aretha Franklin, Charlie Chaplin, Sarah Jessica Parker, Victoria Beckham, Eric Clapton, Reese Witherspoon.

Aries is the first of the fire signs. As well as being ruled by Mars, the hottest planet in our solar system, they’re also cardinal signs – making for a potent and fiery mixture. Not only does this make Aries natural leaders and pioneers, it also means that they’re bold and enthusiastic.

As far as fire signs go, Aries are the go-getters of the three. They’re constantly fuelling their next endeavour with their endless stream of ambition and drive to achieve their goals and further their careers.

Leo

Ruling Planet: Sun

Symbol: The Lion

Dates: July 23 – August 22

Famous alumni: Lucille Ball, Alfred Hitchcock, Whitney Houston, Madonna, Robert De Niro, Jennifer Lopez, Mick Jagger, Sandra Bullock, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Patrick Swayze.

The second of the fire signs clique is none other than Leo. It’s not a secret that Leos love the limelight, which is why it is unsurprising that they’re ruled by the sun AKA the protagonist of our solar system.

Unlike the red hot temper and drive of an Aries, Leos have an inherent magnetic glow – a trait they share fondly with the sun. Their individuality and charisma makes them practically captivating being in any room.

As well as having an ability to lead in their careers like Aries, Leo is a fixed sign, meaning that they specialise in stability, determination, and persistence. When it comes to love, Leo’s fiery magnetism makes them incredible companions too.

Sagittarius

Element: Fire

Ruling Planet: Jupiter

Symbol: The Archer

Dates: November 22 – December 21

Famous alumni: Frank Sinatra, Jane Austen, Walt Disney, Bruce Lee, Brad Pitt, Taylor Swift, Jimi Hendrix, Steven Spielberg, Tina Turner, Mark Twain, Samuel L. Jackson, Bette Midler and Kirk Douglas.

Sagittarians are the most humble of the three fire signs. They’re not kicking down doors like Aries, nor are they vying to be the centre of the universe like Leo. Instead, Sagittarius’ place in the fire sign trio is owed to their love of adventure.

And no, this doesn’t necessarily mean that as a Sagittarius, all you think about is hopping on a plane (even though that desire is present in all of them). It means that even in the most mundane aspects of life, you’ll find a Sagittarius restlessly looking for the bright sparks to light their inner longing for variety and diversity.

Though they make great leaders like Aries and Leo, a Sagittarius would rather flock to a new and more exciting position (the grass is always greener they say) than work their way up to a position of power in a job they’ve been in for five years.
