Since its debut in 2018, Bluey has been more than just a cartoon. It has become a cultural phenomenon, praised for its heartwarming storytelling, relatability, and playful take on modern parenting.

In fact, in 2023, Bluey was the most-watched series on Australian television, with over 11 million viewers. Furthermore, it has three TV Week Logie Awards, one Emmy Award, one Peabody Award, and several AACTA’s under its belt.

Bluey has grown from a beloved Australian children’s television series into an expanded content universe beyond the award-winning show.

The Bluey universe now includes a book series; a videogame; a mobile game called Bluey: Let’s Play!; a companion podcast to the show, Behind Bluey which features commentary and discussions with the creator Joe Brumm and others; Bluey’s World the theme park in Hamilton, Queensland; Lego sets which are coming out in 2025; a Crocs collaboration; its commemorative coins released with The Royal Mint in 2024; a full-length animated feature film titled Bluey: The Movie that is currently in development; and, of course, the Bluey magazine!

The original live-stage production, Bluey’s Big Play, began touring Australia in 2021. It later travelled to the United States in 2022. Then it premiered in the UK and the Republic of Ireland in 2023. And now it’ll be available to watch on ABC Family and ABC iView.

With an original story by Bluey’s creator Joe Brumm, the show features scaled-up puppets of the iconic characters. Viewers will recognise the voices from the show such as Melanie Zanetti (who voices Bluey’s mum Chilli) and David McCormack (who voices Bluey’s dad Bandit).

The story follows Bluey and her little sister Bingo as they pull games and tricks on their dad Bandit who wants to relax on his bean bag.

Bluey’s Big Play will premiere at 7.30pm on Easter Sunday, 20 April 2025 on ABC Family. It will be available to stream on ABC iView.
