How did George Clooney meet Amal?
In July 2013, George was first introduced to Amal — at his own house!
“A mutual friend of ours said, ‘I’m stopping by and can I bring my friend?’” George recalled during an appearance on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman in 2018.
“And I was like, ‘Of course!’”
During the encounter, George and Amal swapped email addresses, and a relationship between the two began.
“We started writing. I didn’t know if she wanted to go out with me; I just thought we were buddies.”
Obviously, George was wrong about Amal only wanting a platonic friendship, and the two began dating in October 2013.
George shared with The Hollywood Reporter that the first date was “good” and he was particularly impressed by Amal’s ability to handle attention from the press.
“We went for dinner. She said, ‘Let’s go to this place.’ It was one of those places that was incredibly hip and chic. And when we came out, there were 50 paparazzi there. But she handled it like a champ.”
How did George Clooney propose?
In 2014, on April 28, George popped the question to Amal.
He cooked her a romantic dinner at home and then asked her to get a lighter for a candle out of a particular drawer. There was an engagement ring in there instead.
“I did all the stuff, got down on my knee and did all the things you’re supposed to do,” George told The Hollywood Reporter.
“And she just kept staring at the ring, going, ‘Oh, my God.’ It was 20 minutes of me on my knee, waiting for her to say yes, because she was so shocked.”
Obviously, Amal eventually did say yes, and the two wed in a beautiful but intimate ceremony at the Aman Canal Grande luxury resort in Venice, Italy, on September 27, 2014.

Yes, as of 2024, George and Amal are still married. They celebrated their 10-year anniversary on September 27, 2024.
The night before the momentous occasion, the couple attended The Albies and George couldn’t help but gush about Amal on the red carpet.
“I would support anything my wife is involved in. She’s always on the right side of history, and I’m always so proud to be in the same room with her no matter what and this is an event where we get to focus all the attention on the people who don’t get enough attention,” George told People before sharing what their wedding anniversary plans were.
“I’m taking her somewhere tonight to celebrate, but she doesn’t know where.”
