Trevor Noah’s opening monologue was extremely poignant
In light of the recent wildfires in LA, host Trevor Noah gave a poignant opening monologue rather than a funny one. Although, he did make a few hilarious digs later on; he joked that “we may get another Rihanna album” soon.

Dawes performed a tribute song to LA
Dawes performed “I Love LA”. Obviously, the song was chosen in light of the wildfires.

Chappell Roan had an outfit change
Chappell Roan, nominated for six Grammys this year, changed outfits before the ceremony. She wore a stunning blue and yellow gown on the red carpet but rocked a frilly grey-blue number for the ceremony.

Any fan of Euro-pop will know that a rip-away costume is a staple of the Eurovision Song Contest. And Benson Boone had Heidi Klum and Nikki Glaser rip away his tux to reveal a glittery blue outfit while he performed his hit song “Beautiful Things”.

Chappell Roan used her acceptance speech to highlight that new artists need liveable wages
Chappell Roan won Best New Artist and used her speech to call out the music industry. “I would demand that labels in the industry profiting millions of dollars off of artists would offer a liveable wage and healthcare, especially to developing artists,” she began. The “Good Luck, Babe!” singer went on to share how when she was dropped by a label a few years ago, she had minimal job experience as a result, and therefore, struggled to get hired anywhere and couldn’t afford health insurance.

Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars covered The Mamas & The Papas
Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars performed a hauntingly beautiful cover of “California Dreamin'” by The Mamas & The Papas during the 2025 Grammy Awards.

The Weeknd ended his Grammys boycott
In 2021, The Weeknd announced he would boycott all future Grammy Award ceremonies as, after his album After Hours was snubbed, he believed the Recording Academy were corrupt and overlooked R&B and hip-hop artists. However, during this year’s ceremony, current Recording Academy President Harvey Mason Jr. spoke about how hard he’s worked to make the awards more inclusive and welcomed The Weeknd back to perform.

Will Smith paid tribute to Quincy Jones
Will Smith paid tribute to the late Quincy Jones with a heartwarming speech. “Q touched so many lives, but he changed mine forever,” Will said. “Quincy Jones was a mentor, a friend, a father figure,” he continued. Cynthia Erivo, of Wicked fame, then flawlessly performed “Fly Me To The Moon”, and Stevie Wonder and Herbie Hancock performed delightful renditions of “Bluesette” and “We Are the World”.

Janelle Monáe channelled Michael Jackson
Continuing the Quincy Jones tribute, Janelle Monáe performed “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough” by Michael Jackson (Quincy produced the song and most of MJ’s work) and she nailed it, right down to the moonwalk.

Liam Payne, Marianne Faithfull and more were honoured
The late Liam Payne was honoured during the In Memoriam section, during which Chris Martin (Coldplay’s frontman) performed. Kris Kristofferson, Cissy Houston, Marianne Faithfull, and Bob Newhart were also honoured.

Queen Latifa presented Alicia Keys with the Dr Dre Global Impact Award
Queen Latifa gave a touching speech about Alicia Keys before presenting her with the Dr Dre Global Impact Award. “I have had the pleasure of knowing Alicia Keys for a long time,” Queen Latifa began. “She is a constant inspiration through her voice, her talent, and, most importantly, through her heart,” she continued.
In Alicia’s acceptance speech, she highlighted how women aren’t recognised enough for producing. “It’s strange to think that we don’t think of women as producers… But females have always powered the industry,” she said.

Diana Ross presented Song of the Year
Diana Ross, aka the Queen of Motown Records, made a special appearance at this year’s Grammy Awards. She presented Song of the Year, which ultimately went to Kendrick Lamar for “Not Like Us”.

Beyoncé won her first-ever Album of the Year!
Beyoncé finally won her first-ever Album of the Year Grammy Award for Cowboy Carter. “God bless y’all, thank you so much,” she said.
