In the book, Lily is 23 years old. Therefore, there was a bit of backlash when Blake – who’s currently 35 – was cast.
However, the author of the book, Colleen Hoover, addressed the criticisms and said she wanted Lily as well as other characters to be aged up in the movie.
“As an author, we make mistakes… And so to make corrections to what I messed up in the book, we aged the characters up somewhat,” Colleen told the US Today show in July 2023.
