In extremely exciting news, Australian icon John Farnham has announced he’s releasing a memoir.
The singer, best known for the hit song You’re The Voice, shared on April 9 that he’s been asked numerous times to tell his story but it only now feels like the “right time” to do so.
“It is a very strange feeling looking back on my life, on the good and the bad and now that I have started it, it is all rushing back. I hope the book engages and entertains, because that’s what so much of my life has been about,” John said in a statement.
John wrote his memoir – titled The Voice Inside, and set to be released in October of this year – with Poppy Stockwell.
“Working with John on his memoir has been like sitting down with an old friend, who also happens to be an absolute legend, to share stories that are both deeply personal and wildly entertaining,” Poppy, who directed the 2023 John Farnham documentary Finding the Voice, said in a statement.
“His resilience and sense of humour shine through every recollection, making this project a genuine reflection of the man behind the music,” she continued.
“It’s been a joy to help bring his tales to life, and I can’t wait for readers to get an unfettered glimpse of the man whose music is the soundtrack to so many of our lives.”
When is the John Farnham memoir getting released?
The Voice Inside, John Farnham’s memoir, will be released on October 30, 2024. It will available as a physical book, e-book and audio book.
In fact, in exciting news, John himself will narrate the audiobook edition of The Voice Inside.
“I’ve just finished narrating my audiobook. It was a bit of a roller-coaster ride. There were more than a few laughs, and some tears, but it made me realise how lucky I’ve been,” John said on October 8.

What will The Voice Inside be about?
The Voice Inside will tell John Farnham’s story. It will likely cover his childhood, his time as a teen pop idol, his relationship with Jillian Billman (John’s now wife and mother of their two children), working with Little River Band, his incredibly successful solo career, his cancer diagnosis and his subsequent recovery from it.
