Felix Cameron took home two Logies

Newcomer Felix Cameron, of Boy Swallows Universe fame, took home two Logies this year.

“So, um, well, this is quite crazy, isn’t it? Actually, the last award that I won before tonight was, um, Student of the Week in Grade 5. So… this is quite a big deal,” the young actor adorably said in his acceptance speech for Best Lead Actor in a Drama.

“What the hell’s going on? You’re not Hugh Jackman, I was told I was doing this with Hugh Jackman,” Andy said.

“Well, cry yourself a river, mate, they told me I was doing it with Hamish [Blake], so, whatever,” Stephen quipped.

Deborah Mailman won the Silver Logie for Best Lead Actress in a Drama

Deborah Mailman ended up taking her sixth ever Logie home during this year’s awards, and her acceptance speech for Best Lead Actress in a Drama – which she won for her performance in Total Control – was wonderfully emotional.

“Thank you. I actually really wanted this. This role, I’ve been so proud of and I’ve done it with the most wonderful people in the world. It’s the culmination of three seasons, over four-or-so years of filming, a lot happened in that. It was a brilliant experience to be part of a production that kept the First Nations narrative in sharp focus. It was driven by complex, intelligent, formidable female characters,” Deborah said.

The ‘In Memorian’ section had everyone in tears

Red Symons was the first to present during this year’s ‘In Memorian’ section of the Logies. Red gave a lengthy speech in tribute to John Blackman and sweetly reminisced about their Hey Hey It’s Saturday days. “A good joke is even when the victim laughs, and John did. I thank John for something he opened the door to.”

Missy Higgins then took to the stage and performed her poignant song, The Sound Of White. During the performance, the Logies paid tribute to many who passed away over the past year including Bill Granger and Cal Wilson.

John Farnham’s sons took to the stage

When John Farnham: Finding the Voice won the Logie for Best Factual or Documentary Program, John’s sons Rob and James were among those who accepted the award.

Rebecca Gibney was inducted as the newest member of the Logie’s Hall of Fame. Claudia Karvan announced the exciting news.

Then Rebecca’s Packed to the Rafters co-star Erik Thomson gave a moving speech about Rebecca before her son Zac Bell took to the stage.

“For me, this Hall of Fame placement is more than just recognising her career and achievements, but it’s also to celebrate a truly amazing human that deserves all the praise in the world,” Zac said.

A myriad of celebrities – including Hugh Jackman – then congratulated Rebecca via video message.

Rebecca herself finally took to the stage and thanked everyone – from people she’s worked with to her family – with tears welling in hers.

“I am very proud to be one of only four women to have ever been inducted into the Hall of Fame. But I know that there are many more to come. So thank you so much. Thank you,” she added.

“This is lovely recognition,” Larry began before thanking several people, including his “work wife” Kylie Gillies and his actual wife.

Right before they performed, Guy and Jessica were introduced by David Campbell, who said:

“Tonight, John Farnham: Finding the Voice is nominated for Best Factual or Documentary Program… It’s a story that resonates across the globe. We want to acknowledge John’s wife Jill, his sons, Robert and James, and his close friend, Glenn Wheatley’s wife Gaynor and their son, Tim Wheatley.

“Most importantly tonight, it’s about celebrating you, John. You are an Aussie icon. You ARE the voice, mate. So, to salute the career of this Australian superstar, we’re joined by two power house vocalists.”

Sam Pang threatened Bandit from Bluey

When it was time to announce the winner of Best Children’s Program, Sam joked:

“Despite being a global phenomenon last year Bluey did not win. And I have it on good authority that if the show doesn’t win this year, they’re going to put down Bandit.”

A lot of the audience then cried out to which Sam replied, “I’d like to point out that some of you got upset at the death of a cartoon dog.”

Ada Nicodemou and James Stewart referenced Margot Robbie

Home & Away‘s Ada Nicodemou and James Stewart presented an award together at the 2024 Logies; which was incredibly sweet in and of itself considering they’ve just started dating in real life!

But while presenting the two also brought up Margot Robbie, reminding all nominees that winning isn’t everything.

“Well, we did a little digging into Logies’ history. Back in 2009, someone very interesting was nominated in the Most Popular New Female talent category. You may have heard of her; Margot Robbie?,” James said before Ada revealed that back then Margot didn’t win.

“So I guess the lesson is you may not win a Logie here tonight but you may also become a three-time Oscar nominee or a four-time Golden Globe nominee,” James added.

Hamish Blake politely said no to going on I’m A Celeb

Hamish Blake and Robert Irwin presented the first award of the night and Robert, co-host of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, asked when Hamish will go on the show. “Not this year, I’m good,” Hamish said, politely but hilariously declining.

The two then joked about how Robert replaced Dr Chris Brown.

“You took over from Dr Chris Brown and then bang, first year, [you get a] Gold Logie nom. Do you know how many nominations Dr Chris Brown got in the nine years he hosted the show? None,” Hamish quipped.

Sam Pang’s monologue

Comedian and host of this year’s Logies Sam Pang did not hold back in his opening monologue.

For starters, it was star studded; Glenn Robbins, Kitty Flanagan, Tom Gleisner, Stephen Fry and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, all wished Sam luck while he prepared backstage.

Then, when he took to the stage, Sam poked fun at Home & Away‘s Ray Meagher, joking, “Big night for you, Ray, just sitting there nervously, waiting to see if you’re included in the In Memoriam package.”

He also took aim at Olympian Rachael ‘Raygun’ Gunn

“And I’d like to acknowledge our youngest-ever gold medallist, 14-year-old skateboarder Arisa Trew. Now, as a reward, her parents promised her a pet duck. Meanwhile, Raygun’s parents have promised to get her breakdancing lessons.”

Not to mention, Sam also recalled the infamous moment Darryl Somers tried to auction off the Gold Logie at last year’s ceremony.
