Fans of Only Murders in the Building know that each season ends on a cliffhanger. It leads into the next season’s storyline.
And the Season 4 finale, which is now streaming on Disney+, did not disappoint. After unmasking the murderer of the beloved stunt double and Charles’ best friend Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch), the OMITB trio found Lester — the doorman of the Arconia who’s appeared in the show since Season 1 — in the building’s fountain with his throat slit.
Who could have done it to such an unassuming and friendly character? The mystery woman (played by Téa Leoni) who showed up in the final moments of the show, or was she a classic red herring? Did Jackie Hoffman’s Uma Heller character finally snap?
We seriously can’t wait to see Charles, Oliver, and Mabel unravel this new mystery in Season 5 of Only Murders in the Building.
But when will Season 5 grace our screens? Here’s what we know so far.
Is there an Only Murders in the Building season 5?
Yes, there will be a Season 5 of OMITB.
Just a week after Season 4 premiered (read The Weekly’s review of Season 4 here), showrunner John Hoffman confirmed that Only Murders in the Building had been renewed for another season.
“We’ve been keeping that a secret for about a week and a half now. It’s very exciting,” John Hoffman told TheWrap.
“We’ve been in the writers’ room for Season 5 for two weeks now. So it’s pretty fast and we’re already in.”
Production for Season 5 officially began in March 2025; Steve Martin shared a few snaps from the set on Instagram. And on June 18, 2025, Selena shared a video of the wrap party on her Instagram page.
She captioned it: “To my only murders family, the past 5 years you all have seen my best and my worst. I hope you reading this because I deeply appreciate each and every one of you. Words can’t describe how much I love what we’ve all created and we wouldn’t be here without you all! Love you guys. Thank you for another great season.”
When will Season 5 of Only Murders in the Building premiere?
In terms of a release date, the fifth season will likely be released in August 2025 — but watch this space.
Who will star in Season 5 of Only Murders in the Building?
Obviously, the main trio Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez will return for Season 5.
Meryl Streep will also return.
Joining them this season is Renée Zellweger – two-time Oscar winner and star of the Bridget Jones movies. Her role has not yet been disclosed, though.
Two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz has joined the Season 5 cast too. According to Variety, the actor has been cast in a recurring-but-undisclosed – role.
Logan Lerman, of The Perks of Being a Wallflower fame, and Emmy winner Keegan-Michael Key, of Key & Peele fame, have also joined the cast. Also, as aforementioned, Tea Leoni will be joining the cast.
It’s unsurprising that these Hollywood heavyweights have been cast in Season 5; Season 4 alone featured Paul Rudd, Eugene Levy, Eva Longoria, Zach Galifianakis, Melissa McCarthy, and Jane Lynch.
How many seasons of Only Murders in the Building will there be?
Showrunner and co-creator John Hoffman has never said how long he wants Only Murders in the Building to run for. Neither has co-creator Steve Martin.
Here’s hoping the cosy murder mystery show goes on for as many seasons as possible…
