Taking to Instagram on May 9, 2025, the engaged couple confirmed the arrival of their son, Jagger.

Sam Kerr’s fiancée is Kristie Mewis, an American women’s soccer player. The 34-year-old, who plays the position of midfielder, has represented the US on the national stage in the Olympics and at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. She played for West Ham United FC, a professional women’s team based in London. Kristie announced that she was leaving the team on July 1, 2025:

“Kristie has been unlucky with injuries since she joined us, so probably hasn’t played in the famous Claret and Blue as many times as she would have liked, but it’s still been a total pleasure having someone of her calibre and experience within our team environment. As Kristie starts to navigate her new norm of motherhood, we fully appreciate that her priorities have changed, and so, whatever the future has in store for her and her family, I would like to wish them all the very best.
How long have Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis been dating?
Sam and Kristie were first linked back in 2021 during the Tokyo Olympic Games where the US Women’s National Team defeated the Matildas. Pictures of Sam and Kristie sitting together on the field after the game sparked rumours that the pair were dating.
Just days later, Sam confirmed the rumours when she posted a Polaroid of herself and Kristie kissing on her Instagram with the caption: “❤️ @kmewis19.”
From then on, the soccer superstars would make regular appearances on each other’s Instagram feeds.
At the end of 2021, the couple would once again go head-to-head during a two-game series held in Sydney. Despite their on-field rivalry, Sam and Kristie were nothing but loved up on Instagram with the pair sharing snaps of their escapades around Sydney.
At the start of 2023, Kristie and Sam gave a rare insight into their relationship in an interview. They revealed they first met when they had to quarantine together in 2020 after months of talking online.
“It was about three or four months until we could hang out in person. The first time we ever met there was quarantine so we had to spend two weeks together the first time we met. I was thinking if I don’t like her this is going to be awkward,” Sam told Gaffer.
Sam, who resides in London to play for Chelsea FC, also touched on how the couple combatted their then-long-distance relationship (Kristie has since moved to London).
“We set little milestones and we make time during the week where we’ll watch the same show and FaceTime or have dinner together or something.
“But it’s tough. I think the thing that keeps us going is that we can see an end point.”
Sam and Kristie resumed their on-field rivalry when their teams went head-to-head during the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia. Sweden knocked out Kristie’s US team in round 16. Sam and the Matildas went on to make it to the semi-finals.

On November 21, 2023, Sam dropped pictures of the proposal on her Instagram. This confirmed that their engagement date was September 1, 2023. Friends and fans flooded the Matildas captain’s comment section with support.
