The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman took the world by storm when it was first released in 2020, so it’s no surprise that the crime book is getting the movie treatment.
Furthermore, Chris Columbus, the director of Home Alone and the first two Harry Potter films, is directing.

What is The Thursday Murder Club about?
Well, without giving too much away, the plot follows four friends who live in a retirement village as they try to solve a murder.
However, fans of the book beware: the plot will be changed slightly for the silver screen.
“The plot, as I understand it, for The Thursday Murder Club movie is based on the first book, but it’s not entirely the same, because you have to change things is the truth,” Richard said on his podcast The Rest is Entertainment.

Is The Thursday Murder Club being made into a movie?
Yes! In 2020, shortly after the book’s release, Steven Spielberg acquired the adaptation rights to The Thursday Murder Club.
And fortunately, after a few years of delay (mainly caused by the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes), filming began on June 27, 2024.
Where can I watch The Thursday Murder Club?
You’ll be able to watch The Thursday Murder Club on Netflix.
The movie will be released on the streaming giant on August 28, 2025 (which, fittingly, is a Thursday).
However, Richard Osman has previously confirmed that The Thursday Murder Club will have a theatrical release in cinemas before its release on Netflix.
The date for the theatrical release has not yet been announced; watch this space.
