Beatrice Borromeo may not be the first name that comes to mind when you’re thinking of European royals.
Princess Catherine (AKA Kate Middleton) or Mary, Crown Princess of Denmark, probably spring up first – but Beatrice should definitely be on your radar too.
Born on August 18, 1985, in the city of San Candido, Italy, Beatrice – whose full name is Beatrice Borromeo Arese Taverna – comes from an aristocratic family.
The Borromeo’s are one of Italy’s oldest and most influential noble families, with a history dating back to the 12th century; Beatrice is the daughter of Don Carlo Ferdinando Borromeo, Count of Arona, and Donna Paola Marzotto.
What does Beatrice Borromeo do?
At the age of 15, Beatrice became a model and walked the runway for high-end fashion brands like Chanel, Valentino and Trussardi.
However, in her mid-20s, Beatrice pivoted career-wise. She graduated from Bocconi University in 2010, with a Bachelor of Laws, and Columbia University Journalism School in 2012, with a Masters in Journalism. From there, Beatrice went on to work at multiple publications, such as Il Fatto Quotidiano, Newsweek and the Daily Beast.
After becoming an established journalist, Beatrice went on to direct several documentaries before returning to her modelling roots; in 2021, she was named as a Dior ambassador.
How did Beatrice and Pierre meet?
Despite her aristocratic ties, Beatrice only became a ‘royal’ when she married Pierre Casiraghi – the youngest son of Caroline, Princess of Hanover and currently eighth in line to the Monegasque throne – in 2015.
They first met while they were both studying at Bocconi University in Milan and began dating in 2008. After 7 years together, Beatrice and Pierre finally tied the knot on July 25, 2015, in the gardens of the Prince’s Palace of Monaco.
How many children does Beatrice Borromeo have?
In 2017, Beatrice and Pierre welcomed their first child, Stefano Ercole Carlo, into the world. A year later, in 2018, Beatrice gave birth to her and Pierre’s second child, Francesco Carlo Albert.
