There’s something undeniably captivating about celebrities meeting royals.
Whether it’s the glitz of Hollywood mingling with the grandeur of royalty or the surprising connections that emerge, these encounters are always a feast for the eyes.
Read on to see which celebrities have met royalty below…
Taylor Swift and Prince William
Prince William has long been a Swiftie.
In 2013, the pair first met during the Winter Whites Gala, during which both William and Taylor famously sang Livin’ On A Prayer with Jon Bon Jovi.
They reunited in 2024 when William took two of his three children – Prince George and Princess Charlotte – to Taylor’s Eras Tour.
William was seen dancing along for the entire concert – not to mention literally shaking during Shake It Off – and afterwards, Taylor took to Instagram to reveal she (and boyfriend Travis Kelce) had met with the royals backstage.
She also wished William a happy birthday as he just so happened to attend a show on his 42nd birthday.
“Happy Bday M8! London shows are off to a splendid start,” Taylor wrote.
Katy Perry and King Charles
Katy Perry has long had a connection with King Charles. The singer is an ambassador for The British Asian Trust – a charity founded by Charles in 2007, when he was the Prince of Wales.
Katy and Charles first met in 2019 at an event held in Mumbai for The British Asian Trust, and then again in 2020 at a reception at Banqueting House in London. It was at this reception that Charles publicly named Katy as an ambassador for the charity.
Most recently, Katy attended Charles’ coronation and performed at his coronation concert last year in May.
Tom Cruise and Prince William, Princess Catherine and more
Tom Cruise has now met multiple members of the British royal family. In 1992, at the London premiere of Far and Away, the actor – along with his then-wife Nicole Kidman – met Princess Diana.
Then in 2017, at the 75th anniversary of the Outward Bound Trust at Buckingham Palace, Tom was seen chatting to Prince Philip.
Flashforward to 2024, and Tom has met Prince William and Princess Catherine multiple times – at the 2020 Euro final, the London premiere of Top Gun: Maverick, the women’s final of Wimbledon 2022, and at the London Air Ambulance charity gala in February of this year.
Dua Lipa and Queen Camilla
During the ceremony for the 2022 Booker Prize for Fiction in London, pop singer Dua Lipa – who was invited to talk about her passion for literature – met with Queen Camilla.
Reese Witherspoon and Princess Catherine
Reese Witherspoon was invited to a Los Angeles fundraiser hosted by Princess Catherine, the then-Duchess of Cambridge, in 2011.
The Oscar-winning actress was so excited and recalled the meeting in her 2018 book, Whiskey in a Teacup:
“I love Kate Middleton… And she did not disappoint! She was just lovely and warm, elegant and composed. She also told a joke, and I immediately fell under her spell. She’s just as magnificent as she seems to be. She’s a very compassionate, socially conscious, deeply caring person.”
Lady Gaga and the late Queen Elizabeth II
At the annual Royal Variety Performance in 2009, Lady Gaga met with Queen Elizabeth. For the occasion, the singer wore a red latex gown by Atsuko Kudo.
When talking to British Vogue in 2021 about her most iconic looks, Gaga said of this look, “Oh I love this one! This is when I was in England and I was meeting the Queen and I wanted to dress like a queen in a British fashion and I also wanted to do it in my way.”
Leonardo DiCaprio and Sarah, Duchess of York
In 2004, Sarah ‘Fergie’ Ferguson, Duchess of York brought her daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie to the UK Premiere of The Aviator. There, Leonardo DiCaprio met all three royals.
Leo also met the then-Prince Charles in 1997 at the premiere of Titanic. And they crossed paths again at the 2021 COP26 United Nations Climate Change Conference.
Not to mention, also in 2021, Leo released a joint statement with Prince Harry, calling for an immediate suspension on oil and gas drilling in Africa’s Okavango River Basin.
Nicole Kidman and King Charles
Nicole Kidman has met King Charles a few times. The first time was in 2001, at the premiere of Moulin Rouge!.
They met again in 2003, at the premiere of Cold Mountain, where the then-Prince of Wales reportedly mistook Nicole for Kate Winslet… Ouch!
Nicole also met Princess Diana with her then-husband Tom Cruise in 1992, at the London premiere of Far and Away.
Spice Girls and King Charles
The girl group Spice Girls first met the then-Prince Charles in May 1997 and then again in November 1997. During the second meeting, a young Prince Harry and South Africa’s former president Nelson Mandela were also present.
Then in late 1997, Charles took Harry and Prince William to the premiere of Spiceworld: The Movie. It was at this event that Ginger Spice (Geri Halliwell) infamously broke royal protocol and touched Charles’ butt…
However, there mustn’t have been any hard feelings as Geri, along with all the other Spice Girls, have separately met with Charles – and other members of the royal family – multiple times since then.
John Travolta and the late Princess Diana
In 1985, on the first night of their royal tour of the US, Princess Diana and Prince Charles attended a dinner at the White House.
Among the guests at the dinner, hosted by President Ronald Reagan and first lady Nancy Reagan, were Neil Diamond, Leontyne Price, Tom Selleck, Gloria Vanderbilt, Estée Lauder, Clint Eastwood, Mikhail Baryshnikov and John Travolta…
And somehow, Diana and John ended up sharing a dance.
Meryl Streep and Queen Elizabeth
After a Royal Film Performance of Kramer vs Kramer in 1980, Meryl Streep got to meet Queen Elizabeth.
