What’s happening with Harry and Meghan?

4 July, 2025

On the United States of America’s Independence Day, July 4, the Duchess of Sussex shared a sweet tradition that she has with Prince Harry and their children.

Meghan took to Instagram to share that their second date was on July 4, and Harry brought her cupcakes to celebrate. It sparked a tradition which they have kept up with their children.

“Our second date was the 4th of July 2016 and H brought me cupcakes to celebrate. Now, all these years later, our two children are in on the tradition. Happy Independence Day! May your day be as sweet as these cupcakes”

Alongside the cupcakes that Meghan made with her children, Archie and Lilibet, she also shared a photo of herself and Harry embracing, presumably on their second date and what could be the cupcake from Harry that started this sweet tradition. Prince Harry had previously mentioned this tradition in his memoir, Spare, but it’s so cute to see what the cupcake he made actually looked like!

For Father’s Day, 2025, Meghan shared an adorable family video of Harry and their kids on her Instagram.

The super cute family video shows Harry dancing with his children, running with Lilibet, laughing over a story book with Archie, and so many more sweet moments.

May 19, 2025 marked Harry and Meghan’s seventh wedding anniversary.

The Duchess of Sussex took to Instagram to celebrate and wrote, “Seven years of marriage. A lifetime of stories. Thanks to all of you (whether by our side, or from afar) who have loved and supported us throughout our love story – we appreciate you.”

She also posted a picture of a pinboard covered in family photos; there’s a particularly sweet image in the lower left hand corner of Prince Archie kissing Princess Lilibet‘s forehead.

Harry and Meghan tied the knot in 2018 at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

On May 2, 2025, Judge Sir Geoffrey Vos dismissed Prince Harry’s appeal that challenged the UK government’s decision to strip him and his family of their publicly funded security.

Shortly afterwards, Harry sat down with the BBC for an interview to discuss the outcome, saying he was “devastated.”

“I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point… I miss the UK, of course I do. I think it’s really quite sad that I won’t be able to show my children my homeland.”

The Duke of Sussex then suggested that his father, King Charles, could ‘resolve’ the issue.

“There is a lot of control and ability in my father’s hands. Ultimately, this whole thing could be resolved through him, not necessarily by intervening, but by stepping aside, allowing the experts to do what is necessary,” he said.

But then, as the interview continued, the duke shared that he “would love [a] reconciliation” with the royal family before claiming that Charles refuses to speak to him.

“I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has; he won’t speak to me because of this security stuff,” Harry said.

“If they don’t want that [reconciliation], that’s entirely up to them,” he continued before finally adding:

“There have been so many disagreements, differences between me and some of my family. This current situation that has now been ongoing for five years in regard to human life and safety is the sticking point. It is the only thing that’s left.

“Of course, some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book. Of course, they will never forgive me for lots of things.”

In response to Harry losing his appeal and his subsequent BBC interview, Buckingham Palace released a statement that simply read, “All of these issues have been examined repeatedly and meticulously by the courts, with the same conclusion reached on each occasion.”

Following the UK’s Charity Commission opening a case into the situation with the Sentebale charity, Prince Harry released a statement:

From the inception of Sentebale nearly 20 years ago, Prince Seeiso and I have had a clear goal: to support the children and young people in Southern Africa in memory of our mothers. What has transpired over the last week has been heartbreaking to witness, especially when such blatant lies hurt those who have invested decades in this shared goal. No one suffers more than the beneficiaries of Sentebale itself. On behalf of the former trustees and patrons, we share in the relief that the Charity Commission confirmed they will be conducting a robust inquiry. We fully expect it will unveil the truth that collectively forced us to resign. We remain hopeful this will allow for the charity to be put in the right hands immediately, for the sake of the communities we serve.

Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, via Hello

The discord arose over disagreements about the charity’s direction and governance. Sophie Chandauka, appointed as chair in 2023, faced allegations of bullying and harassment, leading the trustees to question her suitability for the role. Despite calls for her resignation, Ms Chandauka refused to step down and initiated legal action to retain her position.

On March 26, Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho stepped down from a charity they co-founded in 2006 amid internal conflicts within the organisation.

The resignations of both princes came in solidarity with five trustees who stepped down following disputes with the charity’s chair, Sophie Chandauka.

The charity is now under investigation by the UK’s Charity Commission due to these governance concerns. The charity has announced plans for a board restructuring to address the ongoing issues and continue its mission.

In a joint statement, reported on by The Times, the Princes said, “What’s transpired is unthinkable. We are in shock that we have to do this.”

“With heavy hearts, we have resigned from our roles as patrons of the organisation until further notice, in support of and solidarity with the board of trustees who have had to do the same. It is devastating that the relationship between the charity’s trustees and the chair of the board broke down beyond repair, creating an untenable situation.”

Sentebale has a strong connection to Harry’s mother, Princess Diana. The charity was inspired by her humanitarian work, particularly her efforts to destigmatise HIV/AIDS and support vulnerable children.

Princess Diana was a vocal advocate for people living with HIV/AIDS, famously holding the hands of AIDS patients in the 1980s to challenge stigma. Following in her footsteps, Prince Harry co-founded Sentebale with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho to support children affected by HIV/AIDS in Lesotho and Botswana.

The name Sentebale means “Forget Me Not” in Sesotho, a tribute to Diana’s legacy and her commitment to marginalised communities.

Prince Harry first visited Lesotho in 2004, during his gap year. The trip had a profound impact on him, as he witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by children affected by HIV/AIDS and poverty.

During this visit, he worked with Mants’ase Children’s Home, an orphanage supporting vulnerable children. It was through this experience that he formed a close bond with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, and together they decided to establish Sentebale to continue supporting children in need.

Prince Harry’s US visa documents were released in a heavily redacted form on March 18, 2025, following a court order. The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, had filed a Freedom of Information Act request seeking these records after Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare, revealed past drug use.

The released documents do not include his visa application or disclose his immigration status, leaving questions about whether he disclosed his drug use during the application process.

US officials maintain that his application followed legal procedures without special treatment.

March 16, 2025

On March 16, Prince Harry was potentially at risk of deportation following a court ruling that his visa application file must be made public by Tuesday, March 18. Judge Carl Nichols ruled that the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) must release the documents. It follows the conservative think tank, Heritage Foundation, in its freedom of information request relating to the Duke of Sussex’s visa application.

In February, following a year-long court battle with the Heritage Foundation, DHS agreed it would publicise a redacted version of the documents. The think tank alleges that Harry should not have been granted a visa due to drug use, which he referenced in his memoir, Spare.

The Duchess of Sussex went on Drew Barrymore’s weekday show and spoke candidly about her relationship with Prince Harry and their children in March 2025.

She called him “loveable and easy to love.”

“I am very, very lucky. I am married to the funniest, sweetest, most charming…he’s an amazing father,” Meghan shared.

Meghan said they keep the love alive in their relationship by continuing to “date each other”, by having lunch every day and making time for one another and “show up for each other” and their children, Lilibet and Archie, in their busy schedules.

Drew also shared that she met Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, when she was seven years old. Drew gave her an ET doll, and later in the episode, she shared a photo of the moment.

The Duchess of Sussex was on the show to promote her new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan and her new lifestyle brand, As Ever.

Prince Harry settled his privacy lawsuit against Rupert Murdoch‘s New Group Newspapers (NGN) on January 23, 2025.

As a part of the settlement, NGN gave the Duke of Sussex an unprecedented apology and agreed to pay him substantial damages.

Lawyer David Sherborne read from NGN‘s settlement statement aloud in court and said, “NGN offers a full and unequivocal apology to the Duke of Sussex for the serious intrusion by The Sun between 1996 and 2011 into his private life, including incidents of unlawful activities carried out by private investigators working for The Sun.”

Furthermore, an apology was even extended to Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana:

NGN further apologises to the Duke for the impact on him of the extensive coverage and serious intrusion into his private life as well as the private life of Diana, Princess of Wales, his late mother, in particular during his younger years.”

Prince Harry said via a statement (that was also read aloud in court by Mr Sherborne) that the settlement was a “monumental victory”.

“In a monumental victory today, News UK has admitted that The Sun, the flagship title for Rupert Murdoch’s UK media empire, has indeed engaged in illegal practices. This represents a vindication for the hundreds of other claimants who were strong-armed into settling, without being able to get to the truth of what was done to them.”

After years of legal back-and-forth, the beginning of the Duke of Sussex’s damages trial against Rupert Murdoch-owned media organisation News Group Newspapers (NGN) and specifically its banner The Sun was delayed on January 21, 2025, after it was revealed that both parties were involved in potential settlement talks. However, no particulars about the settlement negotiations were released.

The duke is alleging that The Sun took part in unlawful newsgathering practices to snoop into his private life from 1996 to 2011 and higher-level executives knew about the goings-on and covered it up. He is suing alongside former deputy leader of the UK’s Labour Party, Tom Watson. NGN denies that any illegal activity took place at The Sun.

The case is reminiscent of the phone hacking scandal conducted by journalists at News of the World, which, when brought to life, forced the group to close the publication in 2011.

Prince Harry’s legal team were set to start the forecasted eight-week trial on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. However, moments before the trial was to begin, the team requested an adjournment — despite reaching a settlement agreement ahead of time. The presiding judge, Justice Timothy Fancourt, instructed the two sides to commence, however, both stated they would seek an overturning of that order from the Court of Appeal.

January 14, 2025

On January 14, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a joint (and scathing) statement on the Archeball website regarding Meta’s decision to end third-party fact-checking on information posted to the tech giant’s social media websites.

Meta announced its content moderation changes on January 7, 2025. Joel Kaplan, Meta’s Chief Global Affairs Officer stated that Meta had gone “too far” with content moderation and was “getting in the way of the free expression we set out to enable.” And so, the social media behemoth decided to end its third-party fact-checking product — which it launched in 2016 — and moved to “Community Notes”.

This new program — based on a similar model used on X, formally known as Twitter — enables users to fact-check each other; which Meta is claiming will be “less prone to bias.” Community Notes will roll out in the US, where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle currently reside, first and then onto other countries.

The Duke and Duchess did not hold back with their comments on Meta’s policy changes. They stated that, “Contrary to the company’s [Meta’s] talking points, allowing more abuse and normalising hate speech serves to silence speech and expression, not foster it.”

They also said: “Meta’s changes to its ‘Hateful Content Policies’ do not protect free expression but instead foster an environment where abuse and hate speech silence and threaten the voices of whole communities who make up a healthy democracy.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, Duke and Duchess of Sussex respond to Meta's decision to rollback fact-checking.

The Duchess of Sussex’s official Instagram paid tribute to the late rescue pup with several sweet images and the caption:

“I have cried too many tears to count – the type of tears that make you get in the shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them, or pretend they’re not there. But they are. And that’s okay too.

“Thank you for so many years of unconditional love, my sweet Guy. You filled my life in ways you’ll never know.”

Meghan also shared that Guy would feature in With Love, Meghan, saying, “Many of you will now see Guy in this new series, I hope you’ll come to understand why I am so devastated by his loss. I think you may fall a little bit in love too.”

He also addressed the rumour that he and Meghan Markle had split up — the rumour began recently after tabloids pointed out that the couple haven’t attended an event together since August 2024.

“Apparently, we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times. We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So it’s just like, what?” Harry said.

“It’s hard to keep up with, but that’s why you just sort of ignore it. The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls.”

Harry went on to say that ignoring online trolls helps him focus on his “main goal,” which is “being the best husband and dad” he can be.

September 23, 2024

Prince Harry attended the annual Concordia Summit on September 23, 2024. He took part in a discussion with two The Diana Award’s Legacy Award recipients, Chiara Riyanti Hutapea Zhang and Christina Williams. The Diana Award’s CEO, Dr Tessy Ojo, chaired the discussion which covered the topic of mental health issues faced by young people.

The Diana Award was founded 25 years ago. It was inspired by the late Princess Diana’s belief that young people have the power to change the world. It’s the only nonprofit set up in memory of the late Princess of Wales. The Diana Award’s mission is to empower young people to create change.

The award celebrates the achievements of the 20 most outstanding Diana Award winners from the previous two years.

During the discussion, Prince Harry said to Chiara and Christina: “I applaud you for certainly, [at] your age, to be on this stage, to have the confidence that you do, and to be able to speak as clearly and as passionately as you do. And I know that my mum would be incredibly proud of you guys, not just you, but all of the award winners.”

“I’ve said it years ago and I’ll say it again: the younger generation are, not putting too much pressure on you guys, you are what give me hope. The courage that you have gives me hope; because every single one of us needs courage in order to really move the dial and create positive change in today’s world, probably more so now than ever.

“So thank you to you guys for giving me and probably a whole lot of people in this room hope. And now we need to listen — constantly listen — and then act on the advice and the vision that you have. Because otherwise, it’s your future that’s being stolen from you. And that is unacceptable.”

Harry and Meghan shared rare news on their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet on August 2, 2024.

In a joint interview with CBS Sunday Morning — the first joint interview the couple did since the infamous 2021 interview with Oprah, Meghan said:

“Our kids are young, they’re three and five. They’re amazing.”

The main topic the couple discussed was the dangers of children using social media. Timely as they are launching a new initiative to address online bullying.

“All you want to do as parents is protect them. And so as we can see what’s happening in the online space, we know that there’s a lot of work to be done there. We’re just happy to be able to be a part of a change for good,” Meghan adds in the preview.

ITV premiered its new documentary Tabloids on Trial on July 25, and it features a sit-down interview with Prince Harry, who shared news on Meghan and his family. An unsurprising move, as he’s been vocal about his disdain for tabloids and paparazzi for decades. For the last few years, he has been pursuing lawsuits against several publications for alleged phone hacking and other unlawful acts.

During the interview, Harry explained how tabloids were “central” to causing the rift between him and the royal family. Reporter Rebecca Barry asked him, “To what extent do you think your determination to fight the tabloids destroyed the relationship with your family?”

“I think that’s certainly a central piece to it,” he replied.

“That’s a hard question to answer because anything I say about my family results in a torrent of abuse from the press. I’ve made it very clear that this is something that needs to be done. It would be nice if we did it as a family,” Harry continued.

“I believe that, again, from a service standpoint and when you’re in a public role, that these are the things that we should be doing for the greater good. But I’m doing this for my reasons.”

Harry then added, “I think everythings that played out has shown people what the truth of the matter is. For me, the mission continues. But it has caused part of a rift.”
