There’s always DIY Easter craft and cooking fun to be had at home with the kids, but there has also never been a better opportunity to make the most of Easter in Australia.

Whether you’re up for a staycation or a mini-break interstate, these family-friendly destinations and activities are sure to be easy, fun-filled outings for you and the little ones.

Book an Easter holiday

Easter is the perfect excuse to pack your bags and escape for a well-earned holiday! With the long weekend offering extra time to relax, why not plan a fun-filled getaway with family or friends? Whether you’re craving a coastal retreat, a nature-filled escape, or an exciting city adventure, there’s something for everyone.

For beach lovers, Australia’s stunning coastline offers endless opportunities to soak up the sun. Head to the Gold Coast for theme parks and golden beaches, explore the Great Ocean Road for breathtaking scenery, or unwind in Byron Bay’s laid-back atmosphere. Many resorts and holiday parks also host Easter egg hunts and family-friendly activities, making it an easy and stress-free option.

If you prefer a countryside escape, the hinterland regions of Victoria, New South Wales, and Tasmania provide the perfect setting for a peaceful break. Enjoy charming farm stays, visit local markets, and experience Easter celebrations in picturesque country towns. The crisp autumn air and beautiful landscapes make it a magical time to explore.

For those who love city vibes, places like Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide come alive with Easter-themed events, food festivals, and special exhibitions. Treat the family to a delicious Easter Sunday brunch, visit museums and galleries, or check out local Easter parades and markets.

Wherever you go, an Easter holiday is a fantastic way to create lasting memories, recharge, and celebrate the season with your loved ones.

Head to the Sydney Royal Easter Show

If you’re heading to Sydney, you shouldn’t pass up on the opportunity to check out the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

The Sydney Royal Easter Show is Australia’s largest annual ticketed event, held at Sydney Olympic Park. Running for two weeks over the Easter period, it’s all about celebrating Australian heritage and agriculture and provides a massive range of activities for the family, and more than enough to occupy most of the Easter long weekend.

The show features everything from carnival rides and showbags to live animal displays, woodchopping competitions, and stunt shows. One of its biggest highlights is the Grand Parade, showcasing champion livestock, along with exciting arena events like rodeos and motocross stunts. Visitors can also enjoy delicious food, arts and crafts, live music, and fireworks each night.

The pony rides are a favourite pastime, as well as cooking workshops for kids, plus the show bags packed full of endlessly entertaining treats post-show.

Organise an Easter Egg Hunt

No Easter is complete without a classic egg hunt! Hide chocolate eggs around your home, backyard, or local park and let the kids (and adults!) enjoy the thrill of the search.

Choose a safe and spacious area — your garden, a park, or even inside your home if the weather isn’t ideal. If hosting in a public space, check if your local community has organised a bigger Easter egg hunt you can join!

Make the hunt fun by hiding eggs in a mix of easy and tricky spots. Nestle them under plants, behind furniture, inside flower pots, or even hanging from tree branches.

Keep the excitement going with face painting, bunny hop races, or Easter crafts. Hand out cute baskets or DIY Easter bags for collecting eggs.

Marvel at Featherdale’s wildlife

For extra fun, add golden eggs with special prizes or create a scavenger hunt with clues.

The Easter weekend is the perfect opportunity to get out into the great Australian outdoors and meet some of our most adorable wildlife, and Featherdale is a firm favourite for Sydneysiders and visitors alike.

More than 2,000 Australian native animals live here, from wombats to kangaroos and endangered species — and the largest collection of koalas in New South Wales — a trip to Featherdale offers the chance to see some of our most gorgeous critters up close.

If there’s energy leftover, you can also pair your visit with a trip to the waterslides, rides and attractions at the nearby Raging Waters, for an action-packed long weekend.

Enjoy the Falls Creek Easter Festival

The Victorian Alps are particularly family-friendly during the Easter weekend, and the Falls Creek Easter Festival from April 18–21 is well worth the trip.

While enjoying the beautiful natural surroundings of the mountain, there are guided nature and historical walks and plenty of kids’ activities, too, such as Easter egg hunts and mountain bike shuttles. On Easter Sunday, head to the Village Bowl for an Easter egg hunt and egg toss games.

Adventure lovers can catch the final mountain bike shuttle rides of the season, while bargain hunters can score up to 50 per cent off snow gear at Falls Creek Sports, so you can get your kit sorted before the season begins.
